Abstract:
My adorable, super-cute cat is grey with white stripes and has a lovely black nose between two amazing-looking blue eyes. Because of that all cats on earth must be grey, have white ... - no? That is exactly what you get from anybody if you ask him "What are IT (Information Technology) solutions?" In fact, the term "solutions" with regards to IT means all and nothing at once. It is a little easier with "What is a business solution?" Most folks might respond this way "In business, a product, service, or combination of both which is said to solve a business or consumer's problem is what I consider a business solution." In fact, if you are an IT/tech head which has a foot in business areas as well, you might say the same about IT solutions. I do so. From my point of view, an IT solution is a solution that solves a problem with means of technology AND (very important!) the interplay between humans and this particular technology. Because of that point of view, this page is mostly about all considerations and things that come into ones mind BEFORE we actually talk about specific hardware or software and such things. This is important since many folks e.g. CTOs (Chief Technology Officers) are often talked into some "turnkey" solution (that is what cunning sales folks do) which is a phony marketing term and in the end always turns out to be more a blablabla-but-we-can-adjust-it-to-your-needs thingy that will cost a lot more than necessary plus creates just another vendor lock-in.
